Food left to spoil at check out

This is a very good point, xmangerm.

There is no way of telling when a bought product may have sat outside the refrigerator.

On a related theme one of my pet hates is "all you can eat" places where folk help themselves. Kids (and even adults for that matter) can sometimes be seen sticking their bare hands in the food.

Not going there is my solution but if something like avian flu takes off they may have to change the process.
Yes, I also have a rather large disliking for "all you can eat" eateries. First, all you can eat thought pattern is only encouraging a majority of overweight humans in this world to consume even more and second like you wrote, the hygiene portion is unacceptable.
Thats a good point too.

In a world with many folk starving, it shows a certain insensitivity.
Overweight humans (to include myself) need to practice eating slower for that 20 mins or so it takes for the brain to registrar one is full is the key to a longer and more fruitful life span.
